Our Cesspool Conversion Efforts
Hawaii's Act 125 mandates the conversion of all cesspools in the state by the year 2050.
General Knowledge
-
Cesspools must be converted or upgraded to a septic system level of treatment, or better by the year 2050.
-
The cesspools that need to be converted/upgraded are based on priority level (1-3)
-
Priority zones one (1) and two (2) take precedence - these zones pose the greatest threat on the environment

Priority level 1
These cesspools have the greatest potential to impact the environment, and human health. Priority one cesspools are located nearest to streams, coral reefs, or drinking water aquifers.
Priority level 2
Cesspools within priority level two still pose a significant threat on the environment and are located near natural resources such as the ones listed in priority level one. These cesspools require a shorter timeline to complete than priority level three, but are not as threatening as priority one cesspools.
Priority level 3
Priority level 3 cesspools still impact the environment, but are further from natural resources than priority one and two. These must be converted by 2050. These conversions are not as urgent as priority one.
